Multiple SmartHosts in sendmail.

Can someone tell me if it is possible to set up multiple smarthost's in the sendmail.cf file? I have some critical unix boxes that send out e-mails often, I currently have them set to use a smarthost to send the mail. The problem is that if that smarthost is down the mail does not go. Can I set up a list of smarthosts that I could use in the event of the primary not being available? I could not find any reference to doing this on sendmail.org ..

Thanks in advance.

Re: Multiple SmartHosts in sendmail.

Hello,

To configure SendMail to use more then one relay, edit:

/etc/mail/sendmail.cf

file and simply specify the hosts separated by a colon with no
spaces. For example:

DShostA:hostB:hostC

SendMail will always try hostA first. If hostA does not respond,
or responds incorrectly, then SendMail will try hostB and then hostC.But it will not load balance

Re: Multiple SmartHosts in sendmail.

Separate each hostnames in the DS macro with a colon.

Re: Multiple SmartHosts in sendmail.

Hi Jason,

Try this,

quote //

To configure sendmail to use more than one Relay Server, in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf simply specify the hosts separated by a colon with no spaces:

DShostA:hostB:hostC

sendmail will always try hostA first. If hostA does not respond, or responds incorrectly sendmail will try hostB and then hostC.

//unquote

Hope this helps.
