Re: Mutipathing

Please tell whats the OS version & machine model .

you need to add the alternate links /PV links to VGs with VG extend where as from 11iv3 they
are obsolete as "native multipathing " has been devised.

Alternate links are shown in vgdisplay -v output.

Do post the ioscan -fnC disk ,uanme -a ,model
commands output.

Thanks

Re: Mutipathing

Hi

like Manix says, important to know HPUX version.
different version could need multipathing software or not.

If you want5 to create a VG, you can create balancing disks alternating controllers.
Can you post:
ioscan -funC disk

Re: Mutipathing

Hi

At the moment of ioscan, you dont see the disks, is this correct?

Re: Mutipathing

>>NO_HW DEVICE ..Looks apart from the boot disk
there is no "HW _detection" for the IBM lunx,
looks some drivers are needed first ,then you
may think about adding the paths.

Better to do in steps -)

Thanks

Re: Mutipathing

what driver ?

Re: Mutipathing

Hi

I think you have the driver installed (sdisk), and the problem is you dont see the disks. you see the disks, do an ioscan, do a insf, and create the device files, but at this moment, you lose the disk.

Can you revise it?

Manix, I think if the driver is not loaded, the state is Unclaimed.

Re: Mutipathing

Please refer to the HP Third Party Mass Storage Devices support for HP-UX Servers at:

http://www.hp.com/products1/serverconnectivity/mass_storage_devices.html#IBM_ds

Just like cerain versions of non-HP Arrays, there is no Official Support for the FASTiT line of IBM SAN Arrays.

You could have "work arounds" (as I did on EMC CX3 and Hitachi 9585Vs) but such will be un-offically supported.

Hope this helps...

disk 1 0/2/1/0.1.4.0.0.0.0 sdisk >>>NO_HW DEVICE>>> IBM 1 814 FAStT
/dev/dsk/c4t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0

Can you see that devices are not really visible.?

Thanks

Re: Mutipathing

Oye!

Have you read the 3rd Party Storage Compatibility?

The IBM FASTiT Series is NOT supported. 11.31's multipathing algortihms will not understand its multipathing.

Even if you successfully present it, it will not be a fully supported configuration or will be less optimal.

There are "tweaks" alright using scsimgr gyrations but it will still be unsupported if you will have issues.
