N Console stuck at Counting Prompt (36>)

My N 9000 console is stuck at a prompt where each time you return, the number advances, followed by a >. For example, the prompt might be 18>. I hit Enter, and it is 19>. I haven't figured out how to get it out of this mode. I have tried all sorts of words like quit, bye, done, exit, etc. Any ideas?

Yeah, that didn't do it. I have found my out now, it was Ctrl-U I think. I just started trying Ctrl everything. I think it was Ctrl-U, or Y or T, somewhere up on the top center of the keyboard. It broke me out, but all the text changed to garbage. I then powered off/on the console and it was back to normal.
