NAS mount points

Invalid option being reported when I try to mount a NAS resource i.e

# mount -o proto=tcp,vers=3 10.97.84.97:/vol/mercury_vol1/nuh623_ora_u01_data /ora/u01/data_san
nfs mount: set_args: invalid value for option: "proto=tcp"

I thought that was valis option according to documentation I've been reading.

OS is B.11.00 U 9000/800 639379373 . Also NAS is supported on this NAS filer

Re: NAS mount points

As part of you "documentation I've been reading" did you check 'man mount_nfs' on your HP-UX system?

If not, have a look here:

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-90681/mount_nfs.1M.html

According to the man page, proto is not an available option here.

The first instance of the 'proto=' option in mount_nfs is in HP-UX 11.11.

Try your mount without the proto=tcp and you should have better luck.

Re: NAS mount points

Since found out that this NAS is only supported on 11i OS. 11.00 not applicable

Re: NAS mount points

Just out of curiousity, what kind of NAS is it? I've never had any trouble w/ any NFS mounted devices in HP-UX......

Re: NAS mount points

THe NAS is something called Omnipresence - designed by Telstra I believe and according to their doco 11.11i is the first version it will support.

Re: NAS mount points

Hi Kenneth,

11i v1 (11.11) is the first release to *ship* with NFS/TCP support. However, we did add TCP support to 11.0 via patches. If you were to install the latest NFS/ONC patches for 11.0 and then use the "setoncenv NFS_TCP=1" command that would enable TCP support on your 11.0 system and at that point TCP would be the default protocol used for NFS mounts. I'd bet that would allow your 11.0 system to work with the NAS server.

That said, I'd strongly encourage any customer to upgrade from 11.0 since that OS is not supported any longer.

Regards,

Dave

Re: NAS mount points

Hi Dave. thanks for the feedback. However the env variable NFS_TCP is not an allowable one for setoncenv i.e.
setoncenv variable_name value
variable_name
AUTOFS
AUTOMOUNT
NFS_CLIENT
NFS_SERVER
NISPLUS_CLIENT
NISPLUS_SERVER
NIS_CLIENT
NIS_MASTER_SERVER
NIS_SLAVE_SERVER
PCNFS_SERVER
START_MOUNTD

value (i.e.)

Re: NAS mount points

Hi Kenneth,

What ONC/NFS patch level are you running on that system? We introduced NFS/TCP support in March of 2000 (PHNE_20371) so if you haven't patched your system in 7 years then you might not have that feature.

If you install the latest patch (PHNE_31096) and any dependencies you should get NFS/TCP support.
