Re: ping is giving error

hi,

can you check if the following file exists:

/etc/protocols

e.g.

$ cat /etc/protocols
# @(#)B.11.11_LRprotocols $Revision: 1.8.214.1 $ $Date: 96/10/08 13:20:23 $
# @(#)protocols 5.1 (Berkeley) 4/17/89
#
# This file contains information regarding the known protocols
# used in the DARPA Internet.
#
# The form for each entry is:
#
#
# See the protocols(4) manual page for more information
# Note: The entries cannot be preceded by a blank space.
#
#
# Internet (IP) protocols
#
ip 0 IP # internet protocol, pseudo protocol number
icmp 1 ICMP # internet control message protocol
igmp 2 IGMP # internet group management protocol
ggp 3 GGP # gateway-gateway protocol
tcp 6 TCP # transmission control protocol
egp 8 EGP # exterior gateway protocol
pup 12 PUP # PARC universal packet protocol
udp 17 UDP # user datagram protocol
hmp 20 HMP # host monitoring protocol
xns-idp 22 XNS-IDP # Xerox NS IDP
rdp 27 RDP # "reliable datagram" protocol
$

revert.

kind regards
