need 11.i v1.5 for rx4610

Boss just gave me an rx4610 for use in my test / development lab, how cool! I had bought hpux version 11.23 to install but it turns out this machines only supports v1.5. Does anyone have a copy they can part with or trade? I dont think they will let me spend more money on OS's just for a test box. Maybe I should just got with linux?

Hi Steve,

You cannot trade a copy. License protected.

If you have a support contract linked to your itrc id, you can order a copy of software from this link,

Hope this helps.

Re: need 11.i v1.5 for rx4610

better go with 'borrow' which would make the thing easier and less hassle.
OTOH there's not much sense in them buying You a system without OS, I'm not sure You should accept it that way.

I don't know if there are legal issues involved, if not I could also try setting up an ignite server for You - You only need to set up a tftp server and could fetch the rest from my golden image. It at the very least is a challenging task. :)

Maybe one of the moderators could comment on this - his machine should include a 2-user license at the very least, shouldn't it?

and, btw: linux is not half of the fun.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

Re: need 11.i v1.5 for rx4610

Hi Steve,

I don't think that's true.
The rx46XX is a fairly new line and uses the Itanium-2 chip. 11iv1.5 is an Itanium chip OS and won't run on the Itanium-2 systems.
You'd need 11iv1.6 at least, I believe.
This was the first OS to support Itanium-2.

My 2 cents,
Jeff

Thanks for the info guys. I thought about trying to ignite it, but I wouldn't i need to have the v1.5 already configured in my ingite server before i could deploy it?

Re: need 11.i v1.5 for rx4610

Hi Steve,

11i v1 = 11.11
11i v1.5 = 11.20 (Discontinued)
11i v1.6 = 11.22
11i v2 = 11.23

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00232868

You will need V1.6.

Hope this helps,

Re: need 11.i v1.5 for rx4610

Hi Robert thanks for posting and for the details. If 11i v1.6 will run on the original itanium then the solition is to get version 1.6.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Re: need 11.i v1.5 for rx4610

Steve,

Yes, rx4610 is supported with 11i v1.6. See the HP-UX 11i v1.6 Install and config guide on docs.hp.com:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/5187-0187/5187-0187.html

Under System Configurations, it says:
The HP-UX 11i v1.6 release fully supports the following servers and workstations:
rx4610 (4-way server)

"Installing Linux AS 2.1 on Itanium Rx4610"

They say "install windows 2k, xp or better", so i install unix !

Re: need 11.i v1.5 for rx4610

Ask your boss to give you the box it came in along with all the manuals and cables. If he 'lost' all that stuff, then you'll have to purchase the installation media. Having bosses unpack computers is not a good idea. As mentioned, all HP 9000's come with the OS core software and user license but the install CD and license info is not throw-away material. If you sell the box, the license must be officially transferred through HP. Otherwise, you have to purchase a new license (and CD) from HP. Technically, if you were to Ignite the box from another server without proof of licensing for the destination box, it would be in violation of the OS licensing agreement.

Re: need 11.i v1.5 for rx4610

As much as I very much wish to promote Itanium systems, I have to caution you to form no impressions based on that system. The rx4610 and the Merced processors are _far_ from state of the Itanium art.

Also, keep in mind that few if any of the Itanium2 systems will still be running the OS supported on the rx4610. They will likely be on 11i v2 if my experience is any indication.

So, depending on what this box is supposed to be testing, you may want to consider something much newer - rx1600 or rx1620 come to mind, or rx4640 if you want a four CPU system.
