Need help for use Oracle SGA from rx5670 HP-UX 11.23 RAM
Hi,
We have rx5670 HP-UX 11.23 Serer with 8GB RAM and 30GB SWAP(10GB+10GB+10GB) running Oracle 9i Database. We have following config now:
Total System Global Area 4066336072 bytes
Fixed Size 732488 bytes
Variable Size 922746880 bytes
Database Buffers 3137339392 bytes
Redo Buffers 5517312 bytes
sga_max_size 4066336072 bytes
large_pool_size 16777216 bytes
shared_pool_size 838860800 bytes
Is there any rule to use SGA from system RAM?
How much RAM we can use for SGA?
Thanks-- Khairul

Hi!
make the shmax to 5GB
it may be enough for your RDBMS

Re: Need help for use Oracle SGA from rx5670 HP-UX 11.23 RAM
Shalom,
Way, way way too much swap on this system.
If your system needs this much swap to operate normally it needs more memory. With This much RAM you should be able to run the system efficiently with around 8 GB of swap.
I recommend your SGA be no bigger than 25-35% of RAM. You may some day need to run another instance on this system.
Take a look at dbc_max_pct and dbc_min_pct
On oracle servers, I generally set them to 7 and 5, which conserves a lot of memory and prevents the CPU intensive problem of changing the buffer size.
