Need to test Fiber card

All,

If I do a ioscan -fnkC fc I get the following:
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=================================================================
fc 0 0/4/0/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon TL/TS Fibre Chan
nel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td0
fc 1 0/12/0/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon TL/TS Fibre Chan
nel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td1
fc 2 1/10/0/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon TL/TS Fibre Chan
nel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td2
fc 3 1/12/0/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon TL/TS Fibre Chan
nel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td3

Is there anyway to test the speed or functionality of these? I have this hooked up to a EMC box on a fiber network. When I do my backups over the fiber connections there will be times (maybe once a week) where the backups will not fail but take 4 hours instead of 1 hour. I am not sure why they would be so slow. Is there anyway to check the fiber cards or throughput? Thank you for your help.

Re: Need to test Fiber card

Hi Larry,

You can check for errors:

/opt/fcms/bin/fcmsutil /dev/tdX stat

where X=td instance

You're looking for the top section - Link Fail, Bad Rx Char, etc.

Re: Need to test Fiber card

The best thing I can think of is to send/receive a file and see how long it takes. It's not accurate, but it will give you a ballpark figure.

Re: Need to test Fiber card

Use the EMC tools - see what the performance is on the FA's on the EMC box - you can also see the throughput with Workload Analyser.

As far as testing - copy large file from one HBA to another.

Fo a 1GB file (I think this is right):

prealloc testfile 1024000000

Once it is done once - it will be in EMC cache - so to test again - you will have to create a new file...

If connected your output should look kind of like this:
