Re: Need to upgrade IVM 4.0 to IVM 4.1

Well, as an upgrade to 4.1 first requirtes an update of the host OS to 11iv3 update 4 (March 09), and that requires a reboot - I would say not.

In addition the release notes makes it quite clear that VM guests must be stopped during the upgrade:

http://docs.hp.com/en/T2767-90186/ch02s01.html?btnNext=next%A0%BB

As for procedure, you should start by reading the notes here on pre-reqs:

http://docs.hp.com/en/T2767-90180/ch02s01.html#hw_require

You should then upgrade the VM host to 11iv3 Update 4 using the manual here:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-5795/index.html

I'd then review the list of issues with upgrading to 4.1 back in the 4.1 release notes here:
http://docs.hp.com/en/T2767-90186/ch02s02.html

And finally follow the procedure to upgrade the VM hosts software here:

http://docs.hp.com/en/T2767-90180/ch02s04.html

... plenty of work for you there then.

i was thinking that the use of DRD might be assist you by reducing outage requirements. so DRD the host, DRD the guest and install tools then reboot Host which will (depending on how you've configured it) reboot the guest.

Shalom,

Downtime is required.

Software update involves kernel installation.

That can not be done without a reboot of the host OS, which of course boots all the guests.
