Needs Advice on HP-UX
Dear Sirs,
I am totally new to Unix world and have recently started working on HP-UX (I am straight out of university and now doing a Graduate Job).
The thing that worries me is that even after speding roughly 3 months now on live systems, I don't think I understand unix that much :(, I tend to forget commands… and specially when I read posts here on this forums, I don't think I make even 20% of it. At work I can resolve issues but that’s only because someone has documented it with procedures to solve it. If I get a totally new issue I have no clue how to troubleshoot it.
Earlier when at university, I started learning windows server products and in a very short period of time (2-4 months), I was feeling confident on solving problems, if not complex then atleast medium ones. But with unix I don't feel confident enough to solve simple issues…
Please help me with your suggesstions on what books/websites should I refer to improve my unix skills, I am really feeling tensed… I keep thinking is it just me? Shall I drop the idea of learning unix and revert to windows ? Please help me….
Thanks in advance,
Sumeet.

Re: Needs Advice on HP-UX
Hi Sumit ,
If you have hp-ux or anyother unix system , try working and setting your hands on it.
Also if you hav any test system , start playing around and you can learn lot many things unknowingly.
Start from the scratch , with installation -->. Then configuration-->. Then go for troubleshooting.
Go through the good books ,and try to understand how things works. It will really help you troubleshooting and resolving problems.
Here is few good books:
1.

Re: Needs Advice on HP-UX
Thanks a lot Raj for your valuable help. I will definately have a look at these books and I take your advice of getting a test-system and having some hands on.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
- Sumeet.
