Re: Nerwoking very slow ...lan area local will change an interface, what do i must do with my servers
Here's a little script to check all your lan cards:
# cat /usr/local/bin/lancards
#!/usr/bin/sh
# script to check speed and settings of lan cards
PATH=/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
ppas=`lanscan | awk '$3~/^[0-9]$/{print $3}' | xargs`
for i in $ppas
do
printf "Card at PPA %s - " $i
ipa=`ifconfig lan${i} 2>/dev/null | awk '{ip=$2}END{if(ip==""){printf("Not assigned")}else{printf("%s ",ip)}}'`
printf "IP Address: %15s- " "$ipa"
lanadmin -x $i 2>/dev/null | awk '{$1="";printf("%s",$0)}'
echo ""
done
Then compare to what your network group says the ports are.

Re: Nerwoking very slow ...lan area local will change an interface, what do i must do with my servers
To be honest I am unable to understand your question.
But with what I understood is your network is slow and for that you are planning to add a new network card with more speed..!!
If that is the case you need to you must configure the card /etc/rc.config.d/netconf.
good to reboot after that.
If your case is after adding the new card, your server performance has gone down, you must check what is your Network e.g Thick/Thin ethernet or RJ45 ethernet. If yor network is former one ensure that you have not crossed more than 28 system in the same net.

Re: Nerwoking very slow ...lan area local will change an interface, what do i must do with my servers
There are two areas: communications and technical support.
comunicatiion area told me: "we are going to do some changes which they have to see with the networking ..." this changes does not have any change with your lan1 or lan2 interface ..."
the doubt is: me like administrator, what do i must do ? only give a ping and check the result from console?
or do i have unplugged network wire?
Thanks ....Manuales.

Re: Nerwoking very slow ...lan area local will change an interface, what do i must do with my servers
I'd look at your '/etc/rc.config.d/netconf'. Using the information there, ask questions to make sure that your default gateway address isn't going to change, for example.

Also watch you syslog.log for error messages.
They say they are not changing lan1 and 2 - what are they changing?

If would like to add to JRF's comments, just ask them to ping/ftp to your system.
Also Once they complete their work, ask your applications team to run any interface jobs and see they are fine.
Good luck

Re: Nerwoking very slow ...lan area local will change an interface, what do i must do with my servers
now, communication area will make some activities for the problem last week presented.
Problem was next:
The switch was blocked
The problem was next: a trunk port has problems (1GB UTP Port).
The Switch doesn´t have any available UTP port, however it has available F.O. ports.
now the solution is to configure and
connect the GBIC´s cards and F.O. ports.
i'm managment unix servers hp-ux, they said me: "... we need you are with us for any problem with unix servers and we need you do necessary activities in your servers for we make our activities ..."
My question again is:
do i have something in servers hp-ux?
or do i have only monitoring networking?
do i have shutdown server?
do i have disable interface lan1, lan2, etc (ifconfig lan1 down) ?
Thanks, Manuales .

Re: Nerwoking very slow ...lan area local will change an interface, what do i must do with my servers
To be safe, it would be best to shutdown the applications )Oracle for example) that are running on your Unix servers.
Let them do their network change, then test connectivity to all your network cards prior to starting up your applications.

Re: Nerwoking very slow ...lan area local will change an interface, what do i must do with my servers
I agree with Geoff. I would gracefully shutdown any of your network-aware applications (including Oracle). That way there will be no aborted processes due to network connectivity loss.
You will probably find that your server lan interfaces will operate normally after loss of connectivity to the switch. At most you may see a "Lan Disaster" message on consoles and in the syslog.
Once the network downtime has finished, you could make sure that you can ping your servers and that your servers can ping other devices that are not on their network segment.
Regards!

Re: Nerwoking very slow ...lan area local will change an interface, what do i must do with my servers
During that time, your applications/interface may not work if they use the nework.
Leave your server as it is. Once the network is up, they will be up.
If you want to monitor check the sysog, ping, telnet once they are up..
Best luck
