Netbackup & Oracle exports
As long I know it not posible to backup an oracle export file directly to netbackup tapes; it must be saved to disk and then backup up using bpbackup.
So now we are testing the Veritas tpreq command to reserve a tape and a tape-driver, and this way we can do an export directly to tape.... ( done).
But we would like to include this backup session on the netbackup catalog, to get a full integration
Have anyone did something like that?
ENV: HP-UX 11.xx and Oracle7, Oracle8. Netbackup V.3.4.1
Thanks.

Re: Netbackup & Oracle exports
I'm afraid I don't have the solution to your problem ... Our "ordinary" backups and archivelogs are (through rman) directly send to Netbackup (v3.2 in our case, going to upgrade to 4.5). The exports are done as filebackups. Very much like your environment ... there seems to be no other way ...
Since we are using SSO (Shared Storage Option) we can't use the tpreq-command.
This probably doesn't help you, but I thought you might "confirm" the fact that integrating the exports is not "standard procedure".
Regards (and I hope someone has the solution),
Tom

Re: Netbackup & Oracle exports
yes , i know it is not a standard standard procedure. The tpreq is running ok for us ( i think we have SSO too). But this is the only way to avoid the use of several GB on disk.
I am looking for a way to say Netbackup the retention level, expiration date, contents and so on... but i cant find any netbackup command to do this.
Any ideas ?

Re: Netbackup & Oracle exports
You are right about the filesystemspace. That is a pain. We solve this by scheduling the exports sequentially (we use Control-M for this) ... and removing the file after a succesfull backup. Our bpbackup-command looks like this :
/opt/openv/netbackup/bin/bpbackup -c $BpClass -s $BpSchedule -L $Bplogfile -w $Files
... and we created classes/schedules that reflect the "retention periods" ... but that's about as variable as we can get it.
The complication in our environment is that we use SSO on the UnixServers, but the robot is actually controlled by a mainframe. Through the ACSLS-component we send requests to this robot. We've had months of trouble to get this working correctly ... and commands like tpreq are regarded as "very dangerous" in my company (probably just superstition ;-).
Still not helping you very much I'm afraid ...
