NetBackup .. Load Balancing Backup Traffic on multiple FC's
On NETWORKER (SmartMedia/DDS) I do this by explicitly dividing up by multi-pathed tape luns accross how ever many FC's they are presented on.
On a particular HPUX11i Server and NETBACKUP 4.5, it seems the library and its drives are presented on just one FC interface. We have two XL2's (td3 and td4) upon which presentation of the library(robot) and its 6 drives are duplicated. What I'd like to do is to explicitly configure Netbackup so that the robot and the 1st 3 LTO's are on td2 and the other 3 LTO's are on td3 -- thereby maximizing my FC bandwidth (3 on each FC instead of 6 hanging off one FC..).
Anyone know if this is possible.. I still remember on NetBackup 3.5 (Solaris) -- I was able to do this via the GUI -- some drive property field that you could change its OS path value (ie. /dev/rmt/cNtNd...).. If not via the GUI .. would anyone know the config file that I could just edit?

Re: NetBackup .. Load Balancing Backup Traffic on multiple FC's
I am not sure but if you use Veritas DMP (Dynamic Multipathing) I think you can achieve what you need.

Re: NetBackup .. Load Balancing Backup Traffic on multiple FC's
Karthik... DMP is for disks only.
I am actually wondering how those TB/hour rated systems are hooked up? I mean it would be non-sense to hook up say a 10 Drive AITS or ULTRIUM Library hanging off just one FC. As I've done it already with Networker, it is just a matter of making the backup software map to /dev/rmt devices that spread access to the drives accross different FC paths...

Re: NetBackup .. Load Balancing Backup Traffic on multiple FC's
Nelson, can't you call Veritas NetBackup Technical Support and they will tell you?
