Netscape 4.78 hangs when "Loading plug-in"

Hi all!

i??ve got a problem with netscape navigator and java i thing. My enviroment:
hp9000 (d390)
hpux11.0
netscape navigator 4.78
JRE 1.2.2.13
Java PlugIn 1.2.2.04
Everytime after i authenticate in cw2k netscape hangs with a grey screen, the status bar just shows "Loading plug-in". Cw2k is working properly, as i can call the application on an other workstation without any problem.
I??m not able to switch on "Edit-Preferences-Advanced-Enable Java PlugIn" in the navigator, but "about:plugins" shows that the java plugin is installed. If i kill netscape (no other way to close) the java console output shows "Child could not read window id!java.io.EOFExeption"
The OS has got all the wanted patches.

does anyone has an idea?... thanks in advance....

Re: Netscape 4.78 hangs when "Loading plug-in"

Hi Christoph,

it seems like Netscape 4.7[789] does not like starting "plug-ins" (like acroread, java,...) very much under HP-UX :-(
But Netscape 7.0 should be out any time now, and it is MUCH better, anyway!

Sorry,

Re: Netscape 4.78 hangs when "Loading plug-in"

I would update the Java plugin before doing anything else. The current versions of the plugins are listed here:

Plugins for Netscape 4.78/4.79 on HP-UX 11.x

* HP-UX Java??? Plugin 1.3.1
* Macromedia?? Flash??? Player 5
* Adobe Acrobat Reader v4.05
* QuickView Plus v2.10 from Stellent
* RealPlayer 8 from Real Networks

You can get to this page by going to:

http://www.hp.com/go/netscape_plugins

In fact, the 1.4 plugins are available.

One thing to note about Java - unlike many other HP-UX products, new support is generally released in patches, but rather in new releases.
Necessary questions: Why? What? How? When?
