netscape 7.02?

netscape 7.02?

I read some posts stating that netscape 7.02 solves customization issues.

Where do I get version 7.02? I downloaded 7.0 from HP software depot and it installed and runs ok, but not able to customize it.

I tried to install the 7.02 Linux version from Netscape website and it won't let me install it.

Is there a HP-UX version?

The file I downloaded: (unzipped)
netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-sea.tar

running 11i

Thanks,
John

Re: netscape 7.02?

Hi John,

That's the best you can get with Netscape on HP. HP is not going to support Netscape and it's direction is towards Mozilla.

Look at the faqs section in the following document.

Re: netscape 7.02?

Sri,

So how are some people running 7.02?

I have some applications that require netscape, how will the mozilla browser react?

Re: netscape 7.02?

I run mozilla 1.4a or 1.4b on my M$ desk top, and it rocks over ie or ns. Plus it has "tabs" (ctrl-t opens a new tab in the existing footprint).

I've had a lot of success, and a few failures, but then again, I have failures with IE and with NS - so it's a mixed bag.

Re: netscape 7.02?

I am running netscape 7.02 on HP-UX and Windows XP(at home).

I don't like it. I like Mozilla better because its easier to use the anti popup abilitites.

I guess AOL-Time Warner the owner of netscape itself wanted their own popup adds to keep poppingup.

Therefore I use Mozilla.

1.3 at home on the XP box, 1.2.1 on the HP-UX box.

I've been looking for 1.3 depots for HP but can't find them at http://softare.hp.com

Thanks everyone.

I'm calling it a day in about 10 minutes. I'll check into mozilla tomorrow.

Hello!

If you will check you will see that many
OS remove the netscape use and start to
give mozila also the natscape in his start
was build on mozila technology so mozila go
on and looks that it's better.

Re: netscape 7.02?

Hi John,

I ran into the same problem with one of my users when I was testing v7 a couple of weeks ago. The wierd part was that in two other installs it seemed to work fine but this one was a profile import from v4.9 and would not customize. Tried everything and after a couple days I looked at the permissions on the following files:

downloads.rdf
localstore.rdf
mimeTypes.rdf
panels.rdf
search.rdf

which were read only!!!

Changed the permissions and is now AOK.

At this point I too am thinking of Mozilla however since I am running it for several of my w2k users.

Good luck,
Ian

Re: netscape 7.02?

Ian,

The permissions helped, but I'm not sure why some of the .rdf files had read only and some read/write one had rwx permissions. What are the permissions supposed to be? rwx? For all the *.rdf files? How about Mail files, no green arrow on mail icon letting you know mail has arrived anymore.

All the files you listed were under $HOME/.mozilla dir.

Still don't know where some who responded got netscape 7.02 for hp-ux 11i?

I loaded mozilla 1.3 at home on winXP Pro. I can't take hp-ux down at work so cautious configurations are needed. I'm just a selt taught hp-ux admin, somewhat weak in some areas. Finally getting net access allowed at work is a big help being able to post silly questions in my spare time.

Re: netscape 7.02?

Thanks,

But this link shows about 7.0 not 7.02. How should get the correct link for 7.02.

THanks a lot for quick response.

Re: netscape 7.02?

RP,

That's the one I installed. 7.02 was a Linux version and I did not install it on HPUX 11i.
