Re: Netscape for hpux 11i
I'm using it on hpux 11.11 and have encountered no major problems and beleive HP is now promoting Mozilla over Netscape.

Re: Netscape for hpux 11i
Interesting timing! I've been running Netscape 7.0 under HP-UX 11i for several months and have been completely happy with it - until yesterday. I suddenly started getting nothing but 404 errors when trying to access the ITRC forums. I'm currently in the process of downloading and installing Mozilla 1.2.1.01 from:
http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/mozilla/index.html
If you really want to try Netscape, you can get it here:

Re: Netscape for hpux 11i
I shall download both packages and play with each one. If HP is promoting Mozilla then I shall gives this more time.

Re: Netscape for hpux 11i
Just to let you know, I finished installing Mozilla and it's indistinguishable from Netscape. It even used my old Netscape bookmarks and preferences. I would say "go with Mozilla"! HP seems headed that way anyway.
Good luck,
Pete

Re: Netscape for hpux 11i
Popup protection.
Two clicks in preferences and almost no popup adds can intrude upon the business of making useless itrc posts.
Quite a nice feature.

Re: Netscape for hpux 11i
I installed Mozilla from the download site you gave me but have encountered problems with the installation. I read that I needed to install the gtk first !!!
I downloaded the following packages
B6848BA-r2-PA_11.X.depot
moz_12101_1100.depot
the first package failed on install see attached file print_info
the second package installed but when I try to run mozilla I get the following :
# cd /opt
# cd mozilla
# ./mozilla
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Can't find path for shared library: libintl.sl.1
/usr/lib/dld.sl: No such file or directory
./run-mozilla.sh[36]: 5513 Abort(coredump)
#

Re: Netscape for hpux 11i
In addition to the GTK dependency, there was also one for Java. Did you meet that requirement? I went through all that when I installed Netscape several months ago, so I didn't have any problems with Mozilla this morning.

Re: Netscape for hpux 11i
I suspect if you tried netscape you might encounter the same problem since they both have similar dependancies .... something to try :
export SHLIB_PATH=/opt/gnome/lib
/opt/mozila/mozilla
result ? if it fails
chatr opt/gnome/lib/libintl.sl.1 ?

Re: Netscape for hpux 11i
Netscape 7 is the last version of Netscape that will be distributed by HP for HP-UX.

Re: Netscape for hpux 11i
I installed netscape 7 with no trouble at all. Attached are my install notes showing all required depot's installed.
The one problem I had was due to permissions. Check permissions for the following files, some were read only.
Files:
downloads.rdf
localstore.rdf
mimeTypes.rdf
panels.rdf
search.rdf
I have not installed mozilla yet but plan to when time allows. netscape 7 works good for me so far with one minor problem, it no longer shows the green arrow on the email icon showing that new email has arrived.
Hope this helps.

Re: Netscape for hpux 11i
Here???s my chance to show my ignorance (I seem to be finding more and more of these chances lately).
I have been running the NS 7.x browser for M$ for quite some time and I have had brief chances to experiment with the HP-UX version. While I noticed that the graphics on the UNIX version weren???t the same as the graphics in the M$ version, I didn???t notice many other differences. I only mention it due to Pete???s entry on July 30th stating that Mozilla ???has a feature that Netscape did not??????
One of the minor things that brought me back to NS with something beyond 4.x was the little feature in the 7.x series that would control the pop-ups and basically eliminate them. This was something that I found to be a wonderful addition to the browser.
Am I correct in understanding that the UNIX version of NS 7.x doesn???t have this feature built in? If so, that would seem like a big ???OOOOOOPS!??? from the NS folks. Almost makes me feel like they may have rushed out a package for the UNIX world without thinking that we would want the same features (??).
On a different note, another of the features that I happen to like very much on the NS 7.x version is the ability to ???micro-manage??? the cookies that are stored on your system. If you set your preferences up correctly, then you will be notified each time a new web site wants to set a cookie on your system and you can decide then if you want to accept it or not. The other nice thing was that you can decide if you will accept of reject permanently or not.
It may mean that you are spending a lot of time up front with this decision making process, but if you make them permanent decisions then you will notice quickly that you will be surfing all of the ???usual??? sites without being bothered again.
Just my $0.02 and my weasely little questions on the matter???
