netscape5 colors

I installaed netscape6 and gnome on a 11.11
server. When I export the DISPLAY to my 10.20
workstation the colors are really trashed and
it is hard to read. The old netscape had a
-install for a private color map ... does this
one have a similar option ... I can't seem
to find it

Re: netscape5 colors

I would look into creating a new rgb database on the 10.20 box.

man rgb

Hi,
Because you export DISPLAY to your work station.
at your workstation try with

- open style manager
- click at number of color to use
- select "Most color for application"
enjoy any little thing in my life

Re: netscape5 colors

GTK+ (upon which Netscape 6 / Mozilla are based) does not have support for a "-install" option. Probably the best suggestion I can offer is to change the default visual on your 10.20 box to TrueColor. Even if it is an 8-bit device, it should improve the color display. Since there won't be an even distribution of the color table, most colors will look more Red/Green than Blue.

Another option would be to display Netscape to an Xvnc server running in a TrueColor 24 visual. Then, connect using "vncviewer -owncmap".

BTW, there is no "Netscape 5". ;-)

Re: netscape5 colors

Hi,

thanks for the tips.
yes I know there is not a netscape6 ..
I had a brain fade when I posted the
note ... I was looking at the window
I started it in and I saw
MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/opt/netscape6
and had a case of dyslexia

in any event... I am not much of a
guru in these matters and am not
sure what rgb is going to do for
me ... every thing else I use works
fine so I am not sure how this will work
I already have a /etc/X11/rgb.dir that
seems to be valid enough

I will try the "Most Color for application"
hint and see what that does.

Not sure what a Xvnc server is ... Is this
something that runs on a PC ... I am just
a old unix hack ... and don't even have
a PC on my desk ... :)
