Network down due to a HP-ux server .
We are facing a problem with HP-UX machine(HP-UX ver 11i on 720 series machine) after power failure. The sever will boot normally , But it sends broadcast packets to all over network continuously which will cause network down. If I remove its LAN cable from the server , the network will come up.
How can I stop this broadcast packets. ? Last month also it was giving the same problem .I had changed the IP and it was working. I am getting this type of problem after loading HP_UX ver 11i.
I can watch broadcast packets using tcpdump or snoop.
output of snoop is given bellow :
hp-serv11 -> (broadcast) ARP C Who is 192.168.142.252, hp-serv13 ?
hp-serv11 -> (broadcast) ARP C Who is 192.168.142.252, hp-serv13 ?

Re: Network down due to a HP-ux server .
please post
/etc/rc.config.d/netconf
lanscan
ifconfig lan0
ioscan -fnC lan
Another question:

Re: Network down due to a HP-ux server .
Unfortunately I don't know of any way to limit arp requests, but in general You'll only see this request in response to some other traffic originating by the 192.something host.

Re: Network down due to a HP-ux server .
hp-serv13 is not a boot server . I have added a static arp entry for this host . Now it is trying for oher host.
I have changed the IP addr of this host , It was working fine.

Re: Network down due to a HP-ux server .
also, just how fast are these ARP requests being sent anyway? unless the machine is going ape sending them all, other systems on the network should not be especially affected.
and to reiterate what was said previously - HP-UX 11i is _NOT_ supported on a 9000/720...
Supported, known to work -> warm fuzzies all around
Supported, not known to not work -> an HPite may be in trouble
Supported, known to not work -> an HPite is in trouble
Unsupported, known to work -> lucky today, unlucky tomorrow?
Unsupported, not known to not work -> there but for the grace of Turing
Unsupported, known to not work -> no, it was not deliberate ;-)
