Network Load Balancing with Fault Tolerance

Hi folks,

We are facing problem in implementing load balancing with fault tolerane in win 2000 servers.all of them are loaded with Hp net utility . say i am having two network cards of same make and model . created a team and assigned
ip address for the team .all these NICS connected to same Switch . Some servers working properly. Some servers are not accessible from the peers . If i am testing the same from switch I can able to ping all the servers.If I am disabling the Load balancing and enabling Fault tolerance only . I can able to access those servers from outside .
Suugest me what to do . IN A PREVIOUS THREAD SAKET SuGGESTED TO DISABLE STP BETWEEN THE SWITCH PORTS . I DON'T THING THAT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM . I THING IT MAY BE THE PROBLEM OF LCAP .IF SO HOW TO IMPLEMENT IT .

Expecting a SOlution

Re: Network Load Balancing with Fault Tolerance

Hi man.
In my idea, windows 2000 hasn't got enough intelligent to load balancing. You must use software or utility to load balancing.
You can do when you test from switch? Because in switch, there are some mechanism that can load balancing itself. So that you can access to your server.
As I think, you should assign for each client the IP address to connect to that server.
You also configure your server by using Active directory model.

Hope this helps.

Re: Network Load Balancing with Fault Tolerance

Hi RAM

You should set up a "untagged isl trunk" on the ports of the switch where this server is plugged into, and make sure the server expects this. That should take care of it.

Since trunking operates at the datalayer. Failing over with trunking should not affect tcp segment numbers .. so you should have transparent failover.

PS. Windows 2000 != HPUX ;)
