Network Management ID and MC Service Guard

After installing a 10/100 Base card my MCService Guard won't start. The syslog file shows the following error. May 5 03:30:17 db CM-CMD[4518]: cmrunpkg dbci
May 5 03:32:05 db CM-CMD[4530]: cmruncl -f
May 5 03:32:05 db cmclconfd[4531]: Command execution message
May 5 03:32:05 db cmcld[4532]: SNMPsubagent is up. Calculate the amount of thre
ads needed.
May 5 03:32:05 db cmcld[4532]: Found 1 packages and 0 services.
May 5 03:32:05 db cmcld[4532]: Reserving 269 Kbytes of memory and 79 threads
May 5 03:32:05 db cmcld[4532]: Network interface with NM ID 6 is no longer at 1
0/12/6
May 5 03:32:17 db cmclconfd[4531]: get_tcp_messages:receive != 0 fd=0
Is there a way to change the NMID or a way with Service guard to assign the right interface to the right NMID?

Thanks in advannce.

Re: Network Management ID and MC Service Guard

I think the file /etc/cmcluster/cmclconfig is the one that needs to be change/revalidate in order to reflect the new NMID.
I cannot quite remember how to do this, I think you'll have to rename cmclconfig to some other name, then run "cmcheckconf" and "cmapplyconf" to regenerate this file with the new changes made to the LAN NMID.

The only way you can change the NMID number from the OS level is to change the order of how the card is installed so that when the system boots up, it'll assign the right NMID that you wanted. The way NMID is assigned is it'l start from the lowest LAN card to the highest (eg lan0,lan1 lan2), just do a "lanscan" command and you'll see what I mean.

So basically you have 2 choices to deal with this..

hope it helps ..

Re: Network Management ID and MC Service Guard

Tony,

Re-apply the service guard configuration. cmdeleteconf and then cmapplyconf should fix your problem.

Even if you use ioinit command, service guard needs to be reconfigured as the interface name will change.

Re: Network Management ID and MC Service Guard

I will hazard a guess and say you are on 10.20 with a 10.x vesrion of SG.
You have basicallyinstalled a new card, resulting in the NMID assignments being rearranged. The ONLY way to fix this is to ensure that your cluster ascii file is correct, i.e. if anything has changed, edit this file, cmhaltcl, cmapplyconf, cmruncl.

11.x does not suffer from this as it uses the PPA, not NMID, and this does not change.
