Re: network printers

I suggest that you download and install the latest version of HP JetAdmin on your HPUX box. It can be downloaded from http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpjetadmin1875_swen.html The version included on the HPUX applications CDROMs is ancient. The printer people keep the drivers and models pretty up to date for their suppot of JetAdmin. The distibution comes in .SD format so it can be installed with standard swinstall commands. After it is installed it can be invoked from the command line or SAM will call it also.

If the distribution does not have your specific model included, try to use a older model selection that that has features that closely match whatever features that your new printer has. HP's printer command language is very good from a backward compatability point of view.

Re: network printers

Use jetadmin to install the printers initially and then you can tweak them by editing the model script of the relevant printer. Look in /etc/lp/interface

Re: network printers

use jetadmin to configure the network printers. while adding printers thru
jetadmin(/opt/hpnp/bin/jetadmin)/sam it will ask for the printer model.

Re: network printers

As everybody else has stated, use jetadmin.
For most of the HP laserjet printers, the model can be the same. You may start with 'dumbplot' for non-HP printers and you will need to experiment to find the apporpriate model for the printer

Re: network printers

Jetadmin is a great tool for configuring printers, especially HP printers. However, it doesn't always detect the right model of printer. There are several drivers you can choose from in the advanced options of jetadmin, and each driver has it's man page. For HP 5, 4000, or 8000 series printers, use the net_lj5x driver.

Re: network printers

Take a look at the new JetAdmin program called addqueue and reemovequeue. The addqueue program will query the printer and pick the correct script. For non-HP printers or printers that are not yet on the LAN with a usable IP address, there is an option to specify a printer by JetAdmin number. These batch tools are great for adding/deleting dozens to hundreds of printers at a time.
