We have majority hp-ux network here.. Could anybody give me some advice on network testing tools?

Other than openview, or is that the only?

What are you trying to test? It makes a huge difference in what I would recommend to you.

Re: Network testing hp-ux network

curious what you are looking for in the way of tools?

whether you have connectivity?
where the bottlenecks are?
how fast can you transfer data?

Re: Network testing hp-ux network

Toptools is free, if you have an HP PC to run it on.

nettl is a network packet sniffer built into the OS.

ethreal is a GUI network traffic sniffer.

You really might want to state your goals to get good help.

Re: Network testing hp-ux network

I am pinging a single packet between two hp-ux J5000 workstations every second. Every so often the packet is dropped. No more than ten times a day. Users are complaining about applications loosing network communication. This is the problem, with ping we are not really seeing any great problem. The application is sensitive to network problems.

I have been tasked with saying the network is 100% A OK. That there are not config issues or hardware. So that the user can start to debug the application.

Any more info need?
