according to the service guard manual (ch3 page. 59)
"Multiple IP addresses on the same network card must belong to the same IP subnet."
We have 2 network cards on our L2000 with 4 ports each. We would like to be able to switch from one port to any other of the 7 ports on the system. Does this mean that we can only use one subnet for any of the connections to any of the 8 ports? We were thinking of having a hearbeat go over another subnet but we don't want to do this if it means that our package ip can't use any of the ports on the nic that the heartbeat is on.
In other words, was this passage in the manual referring only to single port nic cards?
Any help or input will be appreciated with some pointage. Thanks.

Solution
You can have your heartbeat on a different subnet. You probably want to do it that way so that your heartbeat won't be stopped by a subnet/LAN failure (avoiding a single point of failure). As for the IP addresses for your cluster and package, you want them all in the same subnet as ServiceGuard will check to see if the subnet has failed vs. a single LAN connection.
