Networking HP-UX and RTE-A
We recently upgraded workstations and are now having trouble communicating with an HP A-900 processor on the network.
The old set-up is as follows:
HP A-900 running RTE-A
HP 720 Workstation running HP-UX 10.20
10base-2 lan
New set-up is:
HP A-900 running RTE-A on the 10base-2 lan
HP B-2600 workstation running HP-UX 10.20 on the 10base-T lan
An unmanaged switch
10base-T to 10base-2 lan convertor
Prior to the upgrade, the A-900 welcome1.cmd file would call a program that would loop until it could make a socket connection to a process on the 720 workstation.
Now, if the process on the B-2600 is not listening on the socket first, the A-900 will always fail to connect even after the B-2600 has opened the socket.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ed

Re: Networking HP-UX and RTE-A
a packet trace might be interesting - try getting a copy of tcpdump onto your workstation and see what it looks like.
also, once the b2600 is up, can the A900 ping it? or the A900 the B2600?
i cannot recall if the RTE stuff ever responded to linkloop messages, but those might be an interesting test
