networking problem 10.2, install from ignite server

Hi, having a real problem getting networking working right on a workstation I had to ignite install 10.2 on.. I believe I have everything set up correctly... I can ping to the machine from other machines, same subnet or different, I can do an nslookup and nslookup same correct response.. I can use the machine to telnet out of..
but for the life of me I can't get this machine to ping ITSELF!

I get the message: ping:sendto: can't assign requested address

I've doublechecked hosts, and inetd.sec and inetd.conf and I belive everything should be ok there..
Any pointers would be most gratefully appreciated..

John,
You can try few more things.
1.Make sure there is no duplicate entry for host in /etc/hosts assuming the name is resolved using the host file .
2.Try pinging the local host ip address and check up if u have a valid netmask.

Take a look at this link it may be of use
