why do device just get recreated for no reason at all.

nobody was logged into the system.
I use dataprotector with LAN'les backup and have the tapes shared on the SAN. Anybody have a explanation?

All the devices which seems to have recreated like 15m, 4m and 5m are on different dates which i presume is because the hardware address is changing everytime for this device. When ever the path or hardware address changes the device will get recreated. And i wonder why is this happening, you'll have to look at your SAN, specially switches, or have you changed the port of the device on the switch, any changes in swicth post will also change the hardware address and that will recreate the device file.

I have to agree with the previous post.

All the san admin has to do is change the Lun number from 8 to 9 and you get a new disk device.

These are however TAPE devices.

You may have an issue with the SCSI id of the tape drive. I'd check termination and the SCSI ID against the instructions posted on the tape drive.
