new DVD gives message: vmunix: SCSI: Request Timeout; Abort -- lbolt: 34281902, dev: cb0c3302, io_id
I am using RP7420 with B11.11.
It has HP Surestore tape array 5300.
I have ordered two new consecutive DVD RW from HP to install into theis tape array 5300 as the old one was giving messages like HW_Error when I did ioscan.
I haven't had any luck thought the status shows:
disk 26 0/0/2/1/0.3.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE _NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD
/dev/dsk/c12t3d0 /dev/rdsk/c12t3d0
But I cannot mount the DVD and I still get error messages in the syslog.
vmunix: SCSI: Request Timeout; Abort -- lbolt: 34288504, dev: cb0c3702, io_id: c00049e

vmunix: SCSI: Request Timeout; Abort -- lbolt: 34278702, dev: cb0c3102, io_id: c000498
Can someone pls shed light to this problem.
Much appreciated.

Re: new DVD gives message: vmunix: SCSI: Request Timeout; Abort -- lbolt: 34281902, dev: cb0c3302, io_id
dmesg -
# this should clear the message. If not, make sure the cable is connecting correctly and all devices on the scsi chain are properly terminated.
Then reboot the box.
Try a DVD in it, see if you can mount it.

Re: new DVD gives message: vmunix: SCSI: Request Timeout; Abort -- lbolt: 34281902, dev: cb0c3302, io_id
I have checked all the connections.
There is no conflict with target as its using its own terminator.
I have also rebooted the server.
Still I get the below messages.
And I still cant mount the dvd rw.
How to find out if this DVD RW is comapatible as I dont have DVD rom.
Or is there a patch/kernel parameter that needs to be addressed.
Could there be some problem with the scsi card or may be scsi cable or scsi terminator?
Can someone pls help.

Huh? (And that's "it's".)
It might be interesting to get a full
inventory of the stuff on that SCSI adapter,
and a description of who's (not "whose")
terminiating what where.
It's really SCSI, not IDE?

Thanks for responding.
What kind of information you want me to send to you pls let me know.
Do you want me to send you any output.
Yes the CD RW is scsi and not ide.

What is everything on the cable? Has
everything the same width (50, 68) and signal
levels (SE, (HV)DIFF, LVD, ...)? Do any of
the devices have termination enabled? Is
there a terminator on the cable, or in the
"tape array"?
> Do you want me to send you any output.
If you're getting I/O errors, I'd trust a
visual inspection over any info the system
can provide. (For example, if there were two
devices at the same ID value, the system
might admit to one of them, but not to the
other.)

Re: new DVD gives message: vmunix: SCSI: Request Timeout; Abort -- lbolt: 34281902, dev: cb0c3302, io_id
For this device (the tape array) it is very likely to bent a pin when connecting the cable. This may produce very strange behaviour. Check this!
Hope this helps!

Torsten.
