new ethernet card not showing up under ioscan

Hi,

We just installed a HP A5506B PCI 10/100Base-TX 4 Port, but the server is not detecting it at all.

ioscan -fnC lan is not giving us anything, not even as UNCLAIMED

lanscan also of course is not returning anything.

Anything I can do to troubleshoot?

Thanks in advance
Arnold

Re: new ethernet card not showing up under ioscan

What kind of server?

What OS?

32 bit or 64 bit OS.

Some hsg slots are not available with 64 bit HP-UX in 64 bit mode.

I'm betting you are running 11i in 64 bit mode on a K or D class box.

Am I right?

What model system? This is quite important. You could also have an A400 of which you canly use two of the four slots provided.
Anyone for a Mutiny ?

Re: new ethernet card not showing up under ioscan

Are any lights coming on on the card. If not you may want to check that it is seated properly beings it is a new install.

Check cards documentation to make sure it is compatible with that server and OS version.

Once you get the card up you can test it at the mac layer with linkloop util.

If you see an UNCLAIMED with ioscan.
Are the lan drivers for that card loaded in the kernel?

Re: new ethernet card not showing up under ioscan

Maybe this is a driver issue?

We have 2 A500 systems with the same OS and patch level. In the first box, the NIC card is detected fine after reboot. In the 2nd box, nothing.

Where can I get the driver for this card A5506B.

Re: new ethernet card not showing up under ioscan

Hello,

Remove it and re-fix in different slot

Then try ioscan -fnC lan

Thanx

you can get those drivers from the Application CDs.

Re: new ethernet card not showing up under ioscan

Arnold,

with 11.11 you should not need to have to add a driver.

As Suresh point out, most likely the card is not properly seated in the slot.

You can try a different slot if there is still one available, or even better you exchange the card with the working one from the other A500 to make sure the card is not DOA.

Re: new ethernet card not showing up under ioscan

Hi,
maybe it's due to:

1. unplug and plug your NIC (it's compatible?)
2. NIC broken
3. Slot broken

in my opinion there isn't a driver problem
bocuse you should see your lan card with
ioscan command (unclaimed) .... then... install the driver
