Unlike PCs, HP-UX does not have a printer subsystem, just a spooler. That means that it knows how to take a print job, store it to disk and send it to the printer. HP-UX uses a SysV lp spooling system and as such, only has a simple script to perform the actual printing tasks. Font controls must be provided by the application, or in the case of simple ASCII files, you can use the -o options (if your printer is not connected by some other server). To see -o options, add the option: -ooptions and you'll get an extra page of font controls. If you have HP JetDirect cards in your printers and connectt directly to the printer through the network, you can look at the man pages for net_lj5x and related scripts to see the controls you have.
