Listening and responding to user feedback - its one of the things HP have always done well!

Lets hope some time soon we can welcome the Compaq user community into our wonderful forums! I'm sure they'll be suitably impressed (although I suspect some of the older DEC crowd will find it difficult to tear themselves away from USENET!)

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your great feedback on the new enhancements....and thanks for your feedback over the past year on suggested improvements. I ran across one today, posted April 19th by Mark Vollmers: "Why not change the default to be that the author is emailed everytime there is a response unless they say not to...for most posts, I would think that the author would want to know when someone has answered."

Thanks go out to Mark and all of you who may have sent in the same idea -- we now have this great feature as mentioned in number 7 above (hey, I just read the "original text" message in the reply box -- another great addition!!)

I appreciate the fine tuning that is happening.

As an extension to enhancement #7, I'd suggest that Notification be turned ON when you post a reply to a question and also be enabled for when the original message author asigns you points.

Perhaps, whether Notification happens in the above circumstances or not could be made a configurable aspect of your Forums profile...

A big step for you but a bigger one to forums...

I think the new features help a lot to manage our accounts.


But...

1- there was another request regarding available cartoons. See http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x58a753921f1ad5118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html, not serious but ...

2- "If you reply to a message, you will now see the original message text in the reply box. In my opinion, this is a great addition to the functionality". It is very useful... but most of threads get replys for replys, this is some times what you reply is regarding a "question author", so i would prefer a separate window to see whole question.

Hi Dan,

Only one sugestion to the 4 point for the new release.

Perhaps is needed the name of the author in the reply form, because there are a lot of names that aren't familiar (This is a worlwide forum), and I like to reply to the author by a Hi Dan(authorname).

Wow. It realy proves you guys listen indeed. I've seen many of the above points mentioned in different threads (I've mentioned #7 myself at least twice).

Some additional questions

- Where are the countries of the profile members now stored (if at all)
- Do we, next to the "member since", now also have the date that users /expect/: date active on forum since

And, yes, I *will* enjoy

One additional remark to #4. However usefull this featur is, in long threads, or threads like Q-A-Q-A-Q-A... it is often more useful to quote the last message in the thread than to quote the first message. Maybe a checkbox to switch might be in place

like all the others i'm happy with the new features. Especially #3 and #4 are great for me.

But like procura i miss the country in the users profiles. I think it is interesting to know where the users come from. Now the field in procuras statistic is empty.

BTW, in the profile, the mention stating we've assigned points to x replies out of y. If one should give the N/A mention, it should reflect in the count and not be ignored.
If one who was already gave an answer and come back to add a little "nothing", should I give him even 1 point? After I already scored his previous answer?

Giving an N/A DOES count as a point assignment. No, you don't have to give an actual, real point to get the count.

Now that we have two great lists with "responses" and "solutions" (I *realy* love this!) how hard would it be to place the points asigned to that specific respons next to it?

I mean, point 4-7 usually require a follow up :) where 0 or N/A mean that the originator is not interested in your answer (I know this is not quite true but you probably see my line of thinking)

Dan, I'm adjusting my statistics scripts to correctly read the new format (only small changes thus far, but they /do/ matter, especialy for the bunnies).

After chasing Steven Sim's question, I dare to ask: how much more trouble would it be to add the total number of answers and/or solutions - if appropriate - in the two "more ..." lines at the end of the user profile, so it would show something like "more ... (1249)"?

I've said many times that "If it wasn't good, then it wouldn't be worth complaining about."

The corollary is that "If is wasn't good, then there wouldn't be a request for more!"

Hence, it would be interesting to offer the ability to view all of one's posts (replies and questions) and have them sorted in post date order *within* the number of points assigned. Ideally the sort could be toggled in ascending or decending point order.

The new, current division of replies rated '0-7' and replies rated '8-10' would persist. The default presentation when opening a user's profile would remain as it is now, too. The enhancement would be the addition of buttons to sort (ascendingly or decendingly) each division by date within points, analogous to the ability to sort replies of an individual post by post date or by score.
