new message in syslog

can anyone explain to me what this means ? I found this in my syslog.log this morning, along with alot of EPIC isses..

This means you are out of swap space.  What does "swapinfo -tam" show about the time of this abort?

"deferred" means that this program decided not to take the default of aborting on memory request but when the page was touched.

I don't know, I was given all of this information after the fact like 2-3 hours after this happened...the "problem" suddenly fixed it self when the vendor was on the phone...I am thinking background job of theirs was running uncontrolled..LOL..
