Hi,
We are setting up a new system. The OS will not be a problem. My question is regarding the VG01 and LVs on the SAN. VG01 and the LVs are setup on the SAN already. When we setup the new system, we will hook it up to the SAN and VG01 and its LVs will be accessible. So, I should just have to do a vgscan -av and they should be picked up right?

Solution
Hi,
if the SAN is already configured (zoning, presentation, etc.) and the VG is already configured, the vgscan should include the disks.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: New server setup
Hi:
You will need to build device files and 'vgimport' your volume groups:
# mkdir /dev/vg01
# mknod /dev/vgXY/group c 64 0x010000
# vgimport -s -m /path/vg01.mapfile vg01
# vgchange -ay vg01
# vgcfgbackup vg01
The above presumes that you have previously 'vgexported' you volume group with a mapfile containing the VGID and have now restored that to your freshly installed server. This allows you do discover the matching devices without specifying their paths.
Regards!
