Re: new tape drive
Hi,
andd welcome to the forums !
To add the hardware,SCSI id, insf -e etc. please see:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=178563
If the actual driver is missing in the kernel, go into SAM and use the Drivers menu under Kernel Configuration to add it.
Please also read:

Re: new tape drive
hpux 11.11
kmadmin -k|grep tape
If no driver loaded then add it, recompile kernel and reboot.
11.23
kcmodule|grep tape
If not static then add it, recompite kernel and reboot.
If stape is compiled into kernel then ioscan, insf -eH hwaddr, then ioscan -kfnC tape
