new vim 7.0

vim 7.0 was just announced this morning. Does anyone know how quickly either http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/ or the hp software depot at http://www.software.hp.com/ might have an update?

The announcement is here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vimannounce/message/161

and the new features list looks very useful.

Re: new vim 7.0

You could be a real UNIX guy and download vim-7.0.tar.bz2 from ftp.vim.org/pub/vim/unix. It's a straightforward build.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: new vim 7.0

Clay, you are absolutely correct. Perhaps I can use this as motivation to get some time to fire-up our test HP server and give it a go.

Re: new vim 7.0

Shalom Mark,

Seems to compile just fine.

Perhaps that makes me a real unix guy?

Hope so.

Re: new vim 7.0

Steven,

Let's hope so. Perhaps the next level of hat ought to feature a flying carpet beneath the laurel wreath and stars to denote "Real Unix Guy", or R.U.G. !!

Re: new vim 7.0

The lag time between the appearance of the vim 6.4 sources on ftp.vim.org and the appearance of vim 6.4 binaries on the HP-UX porting archive was 45 days.

Like they say on the financial shows though, past performance is no indication of future success... 8-)

Use the source, Mark!

Hi Mark,

Tried the compilation, went fine. You can also give a try on 11.11

Re: new vim 7.0

Important note:

/usr/ccs/bin/ld: (Warning) At least one PA 2.0 object file (/var/tmp//ccqiwtBa.o) was detected. The linked output may not run on a PA 1.x system.

I don't think its going to work on 11.00

I missed that with last nights posting.
