Newbie with file manager problems 11.00
Hi, I?m new to the world of HP-UX with only a few weeks experience.
I?m in the process of upgrading our hp9000-785-c3000 workstations From 10.20 to 11.00 64bit. I have completed 3 of the 6 machines and all seems to be running error free but.
1- When I open /etc for example in file manager it may take 15 to 20 sec. before I see any thing. On the same systems with 10.20 it was less then 5 sec. and even longer on remote vols. Is this normal ?
2- When Moving files from a remote disk to a local disk the files are copied but the source files get renamed with extension .nfs which are hidden files. And in the destination window all the current files disappear and only the moved files are shown. I have to exit that folder and reenter it to see all the files. I have noticed that the .nfs files are deleted when the user loges out/in. Is this common or is there a patch I have overlooked?

Re: Newbie with file manager problems 11.00
Mark,
I know that there has been a defect reported against the CDE file manager at HP-UX 11.0 which can cause severe performance degradation, especially in directories with a number of large files. This should be fixed in the current CDE runtime patch, PHSS_23797 (dependencies are PHNE_18878, PHSS_20145, and PHSS_23823).
As for the files with the .nfs extensions, I believe that may be fixed with patches as well, but I'm not 100% sure.

I think, therefore I am... I think!

Re: Newbie with file manager problems 11.00
Thanks Kenneth,
These patches seemed to of fixed my performance problem, but the moved files being renamed to .nfs??? still remains
I installed PHSS_23797, PhNE_24100, PHSS_20863, and PHSS_23823
If anyone has any suggestions I would be most grateful.
Mark
