Re: NFS & AS400
HP-UX contains both NFS Client and NFS Server capabilities. NFS can be managed thru the command line or via SAM. NFS configuration is covered in detail in the HP manual, Installing and Administering NFS Services, which you can via online at http://docs.hp.com in the Networking/Communications Section, NFS Sub-section.
We don't have any cases logged in our call tracking database about issues with IBM AS/400's. However, I do notice one issue with HP-UX's rpc.mountd; it would a hang in certain cases when a mount request came from an AS/400. PHNE_10893 for 10.10 and PHNE_10894 for 10.20 (or their successor patches) contain a fix for that bug; that fix was rolled into HP-UX 11.0.
I'm sorry I can't comment on what steps would be required on the IBM AS/400 system to configure NFS Services. I suspect the same basic elements of exporting mounts if the IBM is an NFS Server, and either "static" mounts or automount if the IBM is an NFS Client.
I hope this help you achieve the solution you're looking for.

Re: NFS & AS400
Thanks for your help. I am fairly new to the UNIX environment (I just finished Basic UNIX & Sys Admin I classes @ HP). From class I learned about NFS and was hoping I could use NFS to access files on our AS400 instead of using FTP to transfer them to our HP9000. What I'm really looking for is the setup reqiured on our AS400 to make the whole thing work.

Re: NFS & AS400
It does work, but kind of slow on the server side. This is because of AS/400 security.
We had very good results testing the AS/400 as client. It performed as well as a c-240.
Hopefully you understand OS/400 though, because there is a whole lot of security policies that have to be added for NFS to work.

Shannon
