NFS and CIFS
Is traditional NFS file system morphed into CIFS nowadays ?
I do not see NFS configuration nowadays.

NFS & CIFS purpose Its different,
NFS - You mount file System accross the Unix- Platfrom Server as NFS mount point,
CIFS "Used to creat /map share folder from Unix- Windows) Using Samba (example)

Its becoz "Now days Orangation" Feels NFS Its not recommended due some Security issues"

well, it depends where you look :-)
In windows environment you will not see NFS mounts. It's UX specific.
