NFS client is hung

An NFS client is hung. This is obvious when running find and bdf, both commands display some info and hang when get to /var/opt/ignite/ partition it was NFS-mounting from the Ignite NFS server.

I tried to unmount the partition, without success. fuser also hang. I tried to start NFS on the NFS server and that didn't fix anything.

Suggestions?

Re: NFS client is hung

Unfortunately, the only way out of this situation is to reboot the machine.

I think I fixed it, I restarted everything in /sbin/init.d/nfs* and it came back.

Re: NFS client is hung

Sounds like you are running an OLD version of NFS - When was the last time you applied patches?

You will probably need to reboot your server to get things cleared up.

Re: NFS client is hung

After starting all the nfs services on the NFS server, the partion came back on the client, and I could do bdf and such.

Then I unmounted the /var/opt/ignite partitions and everything was fine from that point on.

Moral of the story:

Do not stop the NFS server without unmounting the partitions on the client first.

Re: NFS client is hung

$ nfsd -v
nfsd: illegal option -- v
usage: nfsd [ -a ] [ -p protocol ] [ -t transport ] [ nservers ]
where -a causes to be started on each appropriate transport,
protocol is a protocol identifier,
transport is a transport provider name (i.e. device),
and must be a decimal number > zero.
