NFS exports timeout value.
THe nfs mount directory has over 72,000
files and normally takes a long time to
even display on the LAN. Can I set a timeout
in /etc/exports for this dir that would
fix this nfs timeout with the PC?
What is the default value of the timeout
on an exported dir?

Re: NFS exports timeout value.
According to the manpage, you can add the following parameter to your mount command:
timeo=n
Set the NFS timeout to n tenths of a second. The default value is set by kernel.
On HP-UX you can add this parameter to the file:
/etc/rc.config.d/nfsconf.

I'm presuming it's "man mount", followed by "man mount_nfs".

Re: NFS exports timeout value.
Since this PC is connecting via a WAN, I assume you're using TCP and not UDP. If not, you should be using TCP. This is usually a configurable option in the NFS client stack, as are timeout values.
What type of PC-NFS software are you running on the PC? Also, are you using NFS version 3?

Dave
