NFS - Groups

Are there any options for nfs server handing out nfs mounts that will help control group access. We have no problems controlling user, but when it comes to people in a group that are not part of the user and settings are 770, we get permission denied.

Re: NFS - Groups

Are you saying that people in the group are being denied with permissions 770?

If so, take a look at the permissions on the folder itself.

If you export a directory /steveissleepy

ll -d /steveissleepy

chmod o+xr /steveissleeply

You may need to run exportfs -a again, but I'm not sure about that last part.

Re: NFS - Groups

yes correct.

nfs server is handing out as:
drwxrwxr-x 2 psfin samba 96 Oct 24 09:57 bogusdir

and nfs client is:

drwxrwx--- 2 psfin samba 17 Oct 24 09:19 bogus_fsintfc

and I am in the samba group, but still get permission denied when I try to write(create), but I can mount it and cd to that dir ok. Just cant create.

Re: NFS - Groups

How did you export the directories from NFS server? Is it read only (/etc/exports)? Are there any other restrictions specified?

Re: NFS - Groups

/etc/exports looks like:

/app/bogusdir

no parms or acces parms.

Re: NFS - Groups

Couple of tries:

1) Add option '-rw=client_host_name' and/or option '-access=client_host_name' in exports file and try re-exporting it (exportfs -a).

2) Just try re-exporting the nfs directories.

3) Install all NFS patches.
