NFS mount problem
Hello,
I have the following configuration:
IBM box running AIX 4.3, HP box Model 380 running HPUX 11 (with Dec. 2001 patches) and a HP Optical jukebox. The juke is connected to the HP box via SCSI and controlled by AMASS software. The juke mount point is exported and the IBM mounts it via NFS.
When I randomly access files on the juke from the AIX box via NFS everything works ok. If I hit the mount point hard (a lot of requests in a short period of time) the AIX box loses the mount point. You cannot see it when you do a df. The only way to get mounted again is to reboot the HP. This is vey repeatable. The NFS mount is hard.
What could be causing the NFS mount to disappear and require the HP to be rebooted?
Thank you

Re: NFS mount problem
I've never used AMASS but I have used OmniStorage and that works like a champ and I never experienced any NFS related problems with it. The first thing I would do is to export a conventional filesystem and let the AIX bang on it very hard to see if there are any problems.
You might want to increease the timeo and actimeo NFS mount options if they apply to AIX. The other thing I would ask is the automounter involved? If so, I would hard mount the filesystem to make sure the problem is not automounter related. You may be able toi get a few clues with nfsstat as well.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: NFS mount problem
We use Amass but what you are exporitn is like /archive which is iteslef not a true fielsystem , ofcourse u can try increasing time out but in such an env is it not bette to ftp files across
rather than mounting acorss netwrok . We do a ftp and copy across rather NFS mount.
