nfs options order in /etc/fstab
We just went thru a problem where some Apps guys installing a package used the wrong subnet and a bunch of duplicate ip's were assigned causing us all kinds of trouble.
One of the duplicate ip's was for a Windows NT server that has a NFS mount to most of our hpux servers.
Depending on the order of the options in /etc/fstab, the servers behaved differently. I verified on this on about a dozen servers, but didn't have a chance to check all 100+ before the problem was fixed.
If the fstab entry was "ussnfs01:/gnu /gnu nfs rw,soft,bg 0 2", the mount/bdf command would abend after a minute with some error - which I don't have written down - sorry.
If the fstab entry was "ussbnfs01:/gnu /gnu nfs bg,soft,rw 0 2", the mount/bdf command would hang indefinetly.
Anyone know why ?

Re: nfs options order in /etc/fstab
Export the FS from NFS server.
You can use SAM or make an entry in /etc/exports. Then do
exportfs -a ( from NFS server )
Try to nfs mount on target system.
After this try BDF
Thanks

Re: nfs options order in /etc/fstab
In both cases, the filesystem was mounted "soft". The difference seemed to be that if "bg" was specified as the first option, the bdf/mount would hang. But if "rw" was specified as the first option, the bdf/mount command would abend.
