Re: NFS server & client

1. You can transfer file(s) with ftp (or sftp). If you want to use NFS see "Configuring NFS Services" - http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-1154/ch02s01.html

2. For software install easiest way is to register depot in one server and install from another.

Make sure that appropriate ports are openned.

Re: NFS server & client

Hi,

How about using tar and ftp?

# cd /home
# tar cvf . /tmp/home.tar
# ftp ........

Install an application from a depot file? Ftp the depot file (bin) to your server in the US and swinstall the application.

Hope this helps,

Re: NFS server & client

Hello Mohd:

Q1: I guess /home is a dir. Because it is a WAN-connection, I would not use a singe line command for packing, transfer and unpacking. You can use the following commands:

ls -1 /home > /tmp/homelist
vi /tmp/homelist #remove lost+found and anything else, that you do not need
cd /home
tar cvf - `cat /tmp/homelist` | bzip2 -c > /export/home.tar
# instead of â bzip2 â câ you may use â gzip -9câ

Transfer the archive to the destinationserver, cd there to /home or wherever you want the files to be extracted and run
bunzip2 â c | tar xvf â

Q2: either, you transfer the depot to the server, where it must be installed,

or you register it (as root) on the Server, where it is located:
swreg -l depot -x run_as_superuser=false `
Then, you start swinstall without any option on the Server, where the software has to be installed, and select the following options:

[Source Depot Type:] [ Network Directory/CDROM ->]
[ Source Host Name... ]
[ Source Depot Path... ] Select this Textelement with , press enter and select your required software
| [ Software Filter... ] None
Press OK

That's should be all.

Bye

Re: NFS server & client

Hello Mohd,

you also may export the /home in /etc/exports
then
exportfs -a
on the remote sie, you may mount it and then copy everything you need.

BUT, the traffic should be uncompressd and this will slow down the trahnsfer significantly.

see: man exports; man exportfs
