nfs_server weak authentication

In syslog.log on my NFS server I get from time to time the following message:
vmunix: NOTICE: nfs_server: weak authentication

Does anybody no where it comes from ?
I'm running hp-ux 11.00 , NFS server and samba.

Re: nfs_server weak authentication

Hi,

This error is because of some NFS clients do not send NFS requests through Priveleged ports.

But the most of the NFS server Implementations ( mainly Sun NFS ) will not allow the above type of clients. It will report the error as you got.

Are you using anu linux NFS clients or BSD clients ?

Re: nfs_server weak authentication

Any reason for not using CIFS/9000(Samba)

It's got good security and is designed to share disk and printer resources with Unix and Windows clients.

NFS is fine, and I have to use it for Ignite for for Moving objects on and off the box and such things, CIFS is in my far from humble opinion better.

It is also free.

Re: nfs_server weak authentication

I'm setting up Samba for new PCs but I still have older Pcs configured with Unixlink.
These old PCs should be replaced within a short time.
