nfs speed very slow
Hi,
In our environment, we have some trouble about transfer speed, the trouble maybe from nfs.
I use two host :
host1: k580, 6 cpu, hpux11,1000-sx lan card, this host run 60 threads of nfsd and 60 thread of biod.
host2: b2000,1cpu,hpux11,100M lancard, this host run 4 threads of nfsd and 4 threads of biod.
1. from host1, I mount a file system from host2 to /host2, and copy a file (tmp.tar ~44M) from /tmp to /tmp1, about 11s.
2. from host2, I mount a file system from host1 to /host1, in this directory , have a file (tmp.tar ~44M), I copy this file to /tmp, about 34m.
3. If I use rcp to copy file , about 8s.
please give me some advice to troubleshooting this problem.
Thank you!

Re: nfs speed very slow
Hi,
You didn't tell which environment you're on...
There are some NFS patches concerning lack of performance, like the following:
HP-UX 11.0:
PHNE_22125 s700_800 11.00 ONC/NFS General Release/Performance Patch
Dan

Re: nfs speed very slow
environment:
HPUX11 Core OS Nov. 1999
General Patch : March. 2000
The problem is why we mount and cp the low speed host(host2,100M ) to high speed machine(host1,1000M???? the speed is normal , while if you mount and cp from host1(1000M) to host1(100M) , it's too slow .
But when we use rcp or ftp , both the two direction is very quickly.
Frank.

Re: nfs speed very slow
Hi,
As I said before, apply patch PHNE_22125 s700_800 11.00 ONC/NFS General Release/Performance Patch as this will solve the performance issue you're having.
Best regards,
Dan
