nfsd does no want to start
I had to restore my system using an ingite copy. After this completed I restored my system using the latest omniback backup. However since doing this I get the following error message:
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Unresolved symbol: __libnsl_is_variable_set (code) from /usr/sbin/nfsd
Some time ago someone on the forum pointed me to a page that explained how to find what patch had last modified this.

Re: nfsd does no want to start
When starting the NFS Server, the following error occurs:
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Unresolved symbol: __libnsl_is_variable_set (code)
from /usr/sbin/nfsd
./nfs.server[179]: 10321 Abort(coredump)
FAILURE CODE: 134
The following patches are installed:
[PHNE_20627/PACHRDME/English] - NFS Kernel General Release/Performance Patch
[PHNE_19620/PACHRDME/English] - ONC cumulative patch
RESOLUTION
One of the patch dependencies listed in the patch text for patch [PHNE_20627/PACHRDME/English]
is ONC cumulative patch PHNE_20371. After applying patch [PHNE_20371/PACHRDME/English] the NFS
Server started without errors.

Re: nfsd does no want to start
Solution:
- this was NIS environment and he did not use a /etc/nsswitch.conf file
- NIS servers are SUN
=> summary: SUN NIS-server / HPUX 11.00 client => solution: create nsswitch.conf
with fallback via [NOTFOUND=continue]
There was an entry added in the /etc/nsswitch.conf file ("services: files
[NOTFOUND=continue] nis") this would force the machine to look first into
/etc/services for nfsd service. As this entry was missing nfsd service was
not able to startup, you could also check /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log for
more info on the same.

Re: nfsd does no want to start
I also think that it's related to a bad ly installed patch. Did you try a check_patches ? I can also give you a tool called patchverif which could quickly check patches

Jean-Louis.
