NIC by D370 system not detectable after installation

Yesterday I inserted a 100MBit/s NIC into the first free EISA slot of a D370.

Unfortunately I haven't written down the SE No. nor do I know the product No.
The NIC's from the outside visible slot plate has no product No. engraved.

Thus I sequentially installed all sorts of NIC drivers from the Sept. 2002 Core Install/Recovery HP-UX 11.00 CDROM (even though the PCI stuff doesn't seem very sensible)

Thus I currently have these drivers

Hi,

you are running a 64bit OS and inserted an EISA card. EISA cards are NOT supported under 64bit HP-UX.

That is why you cannot see the card. So I guess you cannot use it, if you have a free HSC bus slot you may consider, replacing the card by an HSC bus card (I believe it is J3515 or so)

Is the card correctly seated?

Was the card used before in a different system that was working that your aware of?

good hint regarding 64Bit mode.

yes, I indeed unplugged the card from another D370 to be scrapped soon.

It was my mistake not to have booted up this other machine while the card still stuck therein to see what driver the system used to address it.
Maybe I should replug the card again, and do this missed out check.

this was a very valuable hint!

Meanwhile I discovered an old volume "Configuring HP-UX for Peripherals" that also includes a chapter "EISA Board Configuration".

Therein (and in the eisa_config manpage) it reads that before a newly added EISA card is supported one has to supply a CFG file for that card which is to be placed in /sbin/lib/eisa, and then run eisa_config on that file.

Having a look at the other CFG files is really intimidating, and I'm sure that one has to have profound HW driver develoment experience should one be daring enough to create such a file from scratch.
Thus my problem now seems to be where to obtain such a file.
In the chapter it say that a CFG file is usually supplied by the HW vendor.
My only chance would be to boot up the to-be-scrapped D-class from where I ripped off the card, and hope that I will discover a valid CFG file there.

On the other hand, should anyone of you know another source for CFG files for EISA LAN cards hints are most welcome!

I see there is even one for a LAN adapter

I got the same files as massimo in a D390 (HPUX 10.20), i think the !HWP1850.CFG would match the adapter you got.

EISA cards are not supported in HP-UX 11.0, 64bit version. This is the problem you are facing. Replace it with an equivalent HSC card. Check part details from here:

You are truly wasting your time - NO EISA CARDS OF ANY KIND WILL WORK IN 64-BIT 11.x. In fact, if you are load 64-bit 11.x on a D or R box, you should really just toss the EISA cards.

You really have a very limited number of choices:

1) Load 32-bit HP-UX 11.x on your D-box; you can then install your EISA LAN card.

2) Throw away your EISA LAN card and live with the built-in 10-Base-T in 64-bit land.

3) Purchase an HSC LAN Card and live in 64-bit land.
