We are currently running HPUX 11.0 with some patches. Our current NIC configuration is 100FD which I set some time ago with:
lanadmin -X 100FD lan_card_number
We have 2 fibre cards which support 1 GB. We want to change to these NIC's but use the same IP address.
Can I change the NIC settings in SAM or do I have to use Landamin. My understaning is that the 1 gb only supports full duplex, so it would seem I should not have to change anything there. We want to bind the cards so the same IP address is used which is required by our backup software, plus it would give us faster speed for the backup server to the switch (I would guess about 1.6gb). Is a special command needed to bind the cards. The server was preinstalled with the nic's so I am assuming (dangerous) that the drivers are there, but how do I verify that? I assume the server will have to be bounced after the nic change.

Solution
After you install the driver for the Gigabit cards, you will need to install Auto Port Agregation if you wan tot join the two Gigabit cards together in a single trunk. The trunk will have a name along the lines of lan900 or some such, which you would use to replace the lanN you already have in the /etc/rc.config.d/netconf file.
I know the APA stuff will work through SAM. I suspect that changing the interface from lanN to lanM is also doable through sam, but that should probably be done on the console and not through the net itself :)
