NIS+ authentication problem

NIS+ authentication problem

I currently only have a master (HP) and replica (Solaris). The password expired on the replica. I still was able to log in to the master (shouldn't they be the same?). The only way I was able login to the replica was to re-set my password on the master. Why?

Re: NIS+ authentication problem

Penni,
NIS+ is a pretty complicated subsystem, and there are many factors involved. From all appearances data from the replicate and the master NIS+ servers was different. Because you reset the password on the Master, data required to determine root cause of the problem is most likely no longer available. I would have tried to collect
the NIS+ passwd table object (niscat -o passwd.org_dir), and the NIS+ Passwd table entry object for the user login in question (nicat -o [user=login-name-ofuser]passwd.org_dir) as well as the /etc/passwd entry and /etc/nsswitch.conf entry from both servers.

I've found with NIS+ issues, that they are often better answered via HP Instant Support or by logging an HP Support call, rather than via the HP Forums.

I hope this helped out a little,

Brian,
Thanks for you reply. I have opened a software call with HP (On Friday) but's it not going anywhere.

Re: NIS+ authentication problem

Hi Penni,
Can you please be more specific on password?
I mean whose password and what you need to do.

As far as NIS+ user password is concerned, you can change it from any NIS+ client. You can also login to any NIS+ client as an admin group user if you have admin access and change the things, if you want to.
One more thing you can do is login to NIS+ master server and run sam. you can also change the password through sam.

Let us know if you have something different to look at .
Hope this helps.
