Re: nis Client subsystem fail

Shalom,

1) check file /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs
Make sure its there and is not scrambled, encrypted or otherwise messed up. Make sure any entries there make sense and the servers are up and running.

2) Check /etc/rc.config.d/netconf

Make sure its normal.

If you make changes don't keep backup copies in /etc/rc.config.d/ that will disable functionality.

I'd say its probably your NIS master server giving you trouble. That is the first system I'd check.

Re: nis Client subsystem fail

Hello Jai,

You say you have already tried all the above tips! Can you give more info. Was there any changes in the setup of your env. such as removing slave servers, etc.

Can you ping/telnet the server.

What is /etc/rc.log says. Go through it and check about the output from inetd start.

Without detailed info it is difficult to troubleshoot.

HI Jai
login to the server via telnet then issue the command /usr/sbin/init.d/nic.client stop

then your gui will comes on console once you up you can start your nis

Re: nis Client subsystem fail

Hello Jai,

In that case, can you just do like this:

mv /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf.jai
cp /etc/nsswitch.conf /etc/nsswitch.conf.jai
vi /etc/nsswitch.conf

and remove everything refers to dns and nis and only keep the entry saying files - like this

instead of
hosts: dns

make it

hosts: files

change all the lines like above.

If you use NIS on your site, edit the /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs file and make it as below or make sure it is as this:

NIS_MASTER_SERVER=0
NIS_SLAVE_SERVER=0
NIS_CLIENT=0
NISPLUS_SERVER=0
NISPLUS_CLIENT=0

and reboot it again.

Regards,
Rasheed Tamton.
